Madden NFL 17 is an American footballsports video game based on the National Football League and published by EA Sports for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. As the 28th installment of the Madden NFL series, the game was released on August 23, 2016 and features New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski on the cover.[1] It was the last Madden NFL game to be made on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Development[edit]

On May 12, EA Sports uploaded a trailer to YouTube.[2] They also revealed the new features that were added to the game,[3] which include an upgrade of the Ground Game, a redesigned and better Franchise Mode, 'Madden 365', new Ball Carrier UI Prompts help teach moves available to you, while the new Path Assist helps you navigate and anticipate down field[4] and more. They have also announced that they would hire new announcers, Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis.

Cover athlete[edit]

EA decided not to allow Madden players to vote for the Madden NFL 17 cover athlete, announcing it on May 12, 2016 via the SportsCenter Twitter account. After losing the Madden NFL 16 cover vote to New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was announced as the cover athlete of Madden NFL 17.[5]

Features[edit]

Madden NFL 17 has developed a new ground game mechanic that provide players a more balanced experience. In addition to this, the new defensive AI puts players' teammates into positions to stop the run or pass game. Features such as Ultimate Team and Franchise mode will make a return, however, many of their features have been revamped and upgraded.[citation needed]

Soundtrack[edit]

On August 3, 2016, EA Sports announced the soundtrack for the game, which would feature 40 songs, including 2 Chainz, Flume, Steve Aoki, Logic, Blake Shelton, Brantley Gilbert, Bishop Briggs, Flo Rida, Flux Pavilion, Pusha T and Lil' Wayne. The soundtrack was also made available for streaming on Spotify.[6] The original score of Madden NFL 15 also returns in game and can be played through EA Trax.

GamesRadar gave it 4/5, saying: 'With major changes to some of the game’s core mechanics, and an impressive revamp of the now marquee Franchise Mode, Madden 17 has done its best to avoid [accusations of phoning it in and failing to make significant progress], and succeeded.'

The Jason Aldean one is fitting for a sports game but the Blake Shelton song is 100% random.. Could have went with a much better country song instead.

I actually really do miss the days of just regular NFL Films type music. I do enjoy the Madden sound tracks though. It's nice to hear new music, especially in genres I wouldn't typically listen to. The only problem I have with this though, is these songs just end up annoying to me after I've heard them so many times. I never found the NFL films type music to do that. Oh well, it's all good.

Well madden 02 didn't have much of of a sound track but I will agree with this!

I like some of Snow Tha Product songs so that's cool and it's always spotify on the PS4.

I will never say 'no' to a soundtrack in a sports game. Way better than anything Madden 13-15 had.
That being said, I don't know any of these songs and I laughed hard when I saw that country music is in this game.
Madden soundtrack from 03-07 were outta this world, then Madden 10 and 12 were very good with their 90s rock/rap anthems.

Thank god for Spotify!
Is NFL films music just not listed because it would be a shame to not have that in the game.

I admit I haven't listened to the song, but Blake Shelton is a pretty big name, so I'm guessing that has something to do with it. I really don't know any of his music, but my wife gets magazines every week with his face on the cover, it seems. Maybe he's a big Madden fan and that factored into or something.

Aesop Rock, Fitz and the Tantrums, Flume and Young the Giant.
So there's at least artists I like this year.
EDIT: Well damn, it's off the crappy new Fitz and the Tantrums album. At least there's three artists I like!

People actually liked the NFL films music so I am sure they got rid of it. Their slogan should be '1 step forward, 2 steps back.'

It's crazy. This is such a varied soundtrack. Really has a bit of something for every genre to appease the masses, but, people are still finding a way to call it garbage and awful because it includes other genres than the one they like.
Kudos to the team for this soundtrack. I really like it.

Best Football soundtrack was NCAA 2006, headlined by this gem
# 33Brooke2011 @ 08/03/16 03:13 PM
To each their own . It's just menu music and has no direct link to the game itself. It's not coming in over the stadium speakers during the game. So if it passes the time while appealing to your auricle bones then so be it. For me I usually just mute it or pick one or two songs.

I don't think the soundtrack is absolutely terrible, it'll definitely need some getting used to though. But if they gave us a soundtrack with nothing but NFL Films tracks, I would love that a ton honestly.

You're not allowed to make mature and rational posts around here!
I completely agree.

I'd have loved it if Future could have made it on.

When I looked at M16's soundtrack I wasn't all that familiar with many of the songs, but I quickly started liking quite a few of those tracks. M17's soundtrack seems pretty average to me, but again, I'm sure a lot of the tracks will embed themselves into my brain the more I play. Also, I mainly play on PS4, so Spotify is a lifesaver!

Nice surprise to see YG on the soundtrack. Looking forward to it.

Notice the trend in which sports video game soundtracks have headed..i'm talking about madden and nba 2k in particular. Madden used to be infiltrated with classic hard rock/ heavy metal back in its heyday and hard underground hip hop/rap. Now its mostly mainstream BS. With the aforementioned music above combined with the timeless NFL films music, the soundtrack really captured the ESSENCE of football as a whole. Now it seems its just about social media relatability and casual gamer appeal. I don't
' feel football ' with this soundtrack. The same thing has happened with nba 2k, only that game went from dope, head nodding underground rap to mainstream pop-rap in the last i'd say 4 years, ever since that deal was made with Jay-Z basically. Just goes to show you the culture change as a whole, not just in sports video games..
