After seeing the movie, I was freaked out to even go down to my basement in fear that I may see 'The Bloody Countess'. I was truly freaked out by this movie. The whole storyline of the video game tied in very well. Made it almost believable.
The next day I checked the movie out online to find that this was based on the REAL bloody countess, Elizabeth Bathory. I found it quite interesting the life this woman led.
That people (NOBLE PEOPLE) can get away with things like this. The depths she would go to, to stay youthful and the harm she put on to so many girls. I would recommend this to anyone to enjoys a heart stopper and to encourage them to check out the real story behind this woman.
Quite graphic and gross to be truthful but interesting at the same time.
Stay Alive is a 2006 horror film directed by William Brent Bell.
Low budget type film but good. Acting is not great but OK with a lot of emotion. Type of movie that touches on certain things that most probably would rather avoid. Greed can be a horrible thing, especially gold rush type greed which leads to murder of tribes who once walked this land in America. This is a redemption type movie, and if you are honest they got what they deserved. A key moment in the film for me was toward the end, when she yells out to her friend 'We are being judged.'
A lot of subliminal messages in this one especially about judgment and how people are running OUT of Time. Last days for those that can see it and there will come a day when the hidden things are no longer hidden. How many today could face judgement in a greedy society if today was your last day? I've watched a lot a bad horror flics and I thought this one would be one more in that lot. So I've watched it thinking that when it became unbearable I would stop wachting it. But interestingly enough I survived until the end.
Sure, some of the characters are bad written and some of the effects are naive (even unnecessary), but the premise is alright (An homage to Treasure of Sierra Madre) and it has some good moments. One thing that bothered me a lot: there's no need to repeat so many times the Indian curse. It was very clear since the epilogue. I sat down to watch this 2019 horror movie because of two reasons. The first and most important reason was because Barbara Crampton was in it, and the second being that it was a horror movie. Now, much to my disappointment, Barbara Crampton wasn't really all that much in the movie, and I believe she was listed on the cover solely to lure in the audience, us horror fans familiar with her cult standing. She was only briefly in the movie, so don't get suckered in by this.
Some of us did, so you don't have to. As for it being a horror movie, well. I'd say it was more of a thriller than it was a horror movie, because it wasn't scary. The thriller aspect was more dominant as there was something psychological underlaying the tone of the movie and also it had a supernatural feel to it. So don't sit down to watch 'Stay Out Stay Alive' with the impression of it being a scary horror movie, because it isn't. And that leaves me with the impression of the movie.
The movie certainly did have some interesting enough moments to it, but it was mostly weighed down by a trivial plot and storyline, and also by the fact that it wasn't really all that interesting actually. The movie quickly grew stale and mundane, and you just sort of sit there in a state of stupor as the storyline trots on. I am rating 'Stay Out Stay Alive' a four out of ten stars rating because of the production value it had, and also because it seemed like an ambitious project with the heart and spirit in the right place. Just a shame that the storyline was less than mediocre, and the fact that Barbara Crampton was hardly in the movie.
Oh, and the fact that this wasn't a scary horror movie after all. 'Stay Out Stay Alive' is entertaining enough for a single viewing, if you have nothing better on the agenda. But beware, this is by no means a cinematic gem or masterpiece. And the movie came without a bang, and it will slowly fade into oblivion without a bang. This is not a movie that I will be returning to watch a second time.
Kind of thrown by some of the low reviews on here. As a film festival programmer for several fests, I watch a ton - so many - independent films. I floated between a 7-8 on the score and the story landed me on an 8.If viewers are watching this for a gore-meets-so-bad-its-wonderful-bloodfest, then they will be disappointed. This is a smart film, with a pretty stellar production feel - the set & water FX are studio level quality, solid performances and some fun jump-scares & thrills. The script is a damn gem and really digs in with the themes of greed.Watch it, once they get to the camping site, you'll be rewarded with a pretty great independent film experience. I really did not expect this movie to be good.
Right away it looked like a bad cheap movie. The premise of the movie is interestingly not truly revealed until 'much' later in the film. I felt a sense of reward by sticking until the end because by then the supernatural premise 'made sense.' This is a science-fiction film so viewers must not judge the movie negatively even if the source of the supernatural is farfetched. Character development: one character in particular I thought was well developed. The others no.
Mystery: there was a fair amountSuspense: some, especially towards the last part of the movie.Ending: was good. Oddly, the 'climax' of the film was at the end.Fast-forward: I did it a few times to get to the better parts.
The supernatural premise of the film may turn off some of view, so if you find yourself a little bored, hit fast-forward until you reach a more tolerable part. Conclusion: the supernatural aspect of the film was not executed well; however, the movie's ending was good and made it worth watching the film (w/ several fast-forwards).
